The unavoidable

I was walking through the old passage that led to the end of the road and into the forest.
I knew this forest since i was a kid.Actually it seemed like a forest when i was small, now it seemed to me like a bunch of unattended trees. It was dusk, some birds were chirping in a low tone cacophony and the soil was still moister. I was carrying with me an axe and a plastic bag to put the chopped pieces inside. I stopped a bit to choose which tree i should cut, they all seemed the same.
I turned right and decided to chop the one that looked easier to bring down.I raised the axe but before hitting the tree i felt a burn in the back of my head followed by an intense pain.I searched through my hair and realized there was blood. Then a second shock in my back confirmed that something is hitting me hard. Putting my hands to my face i turned to see a child throwing rocks at me yelling to leave the tree alone. This tree said the boy is my galeon, my fortress and my friend and yelling that rushed and headbutted me in the ribs. I fell and the boy started hitting me while i was down.
I felt dizzy and confused, the axe was still in my hand, i grabbed it and hit the boy to the chest, blood sprayed all over. What have i done i mumbled. I lost my senses, i was no longer who i was, i remembered when i was 10 years old playing in the huge forest, i was running and climbing carelessly. I was on top of the great tree, the one that i once named "everlasting giant", i was being a knight or a pirate on top of my favorite tree.
My eyes opened slowly, i was still down watching the tree i was about to cut. That tree looked very familiar now, it was indeed the everlasting giant.
The boy was next to me barely breathing. I stood up and saw his face clearly, my own face of 20 years ago. I started to panic, i pushed his chest and shouted no, please don't die not now,now that i need you the most.
I picked the axe and through it away. The boy opened it's eyes. I t was not too late, it could be still saved.I could still be saved.
The boy disappeared, the man was standing alone among the trees, but there were not just trees anymore, they were the great forest.
